A residential walkway is a type of foot path primarily intended for pedestrian access to areas around a residence, such as the entrance to a house or residential building, parking, or leisure spaces within the residence.
Tagging
Use highway=footway + footway=residential along with other footway attributes such as surface=*.
Access
In most jurisdictions, there is an implied license of access to approach a residence via a residence's curtilage ("area immediately surrounding the home") but it may be revoked at any time by the owner. In such jurisdictions, access=permissive is the implied default. Provided sufficient notice, such as by both erecting fencing and posting no-trespassing signs, the landowner may revoke this implied license in which case the footway should be explicitly tagged access=private. In some cases, access=yes may be appropriate such as when the footway is part of a public easement such as when the footway is the only method of access to another property ("Easement by Necessity").
Rendering
Renderers may wish to stop rendering at a higher zoom level than other footways as these footways are usually short in length but numerous in close proximity which can give the appearance of "specks of dirt" on the map. This suggestion is even stronger for zoom levels at which the features being connected by the ways are no longer rendered.
