The tag utility=sewerage is added to a feature (such as a marker=*) to specify that it is part of the infrastructure related to waste water collection, transmission and processing from consumers to treatment facilities and natural return

Once water has been consumed for any usage, it requires to be collected and safely transmitted to processign plants as to be returned to rivers. Sewerage is an activity that fulfill these needs by running complex utility networks. Consumers aren't only domestic but industrial also with specific facilities for sake of safety.

This value was originally introduced to be used in combination with marker=*.

It shouldn't be confused with drinkable water transmission which is a different activity. See utility=water.
