This access tag is used to tag emergency access roads. Emergency access roads are ways like driveways or footways that are designed or reserved to be used by firefighters or ambulance in case of an emergency. This tag should especially be used for ways that are officially declared an emergency access.

Ways that can be used by firefighters or ambulance, but that are not designated as an emergency access, can be tagged with emergency=yes.

Ways that are reserved for firefighters or ambulance can be additionally tagged with access=no or access=private, see tag:service=emergency_access#When_to_use for more info.

How to map?

To map an emergency access road the access tag emergency=designated is added to an already existing highway=* like driveway or footway.
