This tag is for a Navajo Route, a type of road route on the Navajo Nation reservation, which overlaps the U.S. states of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. A Navajo Route is marked with signs bearing a corner-notched projectile point against a turquoise background. This is not to be confused with the serrated arrowhead of a Bureau of Indian Affairs route elsewhere in the country or the arrowhead marker for Indian Routes throughout Arizona. Note that the Arizona Department of Transportation sometimes posts Indian Route markers instead of the correct Navajo design within state rights of way. [1]
