A piston pump involves a reciprocating plunger that sucks the fluid into the pump chamber to push it out. It also covers plunger pumps and beam engines which are usually seen over petroleum wells.
Two valves alternatively open and closes along the plunger movement to let the fluid enter the chamber and then going out.
Such pumps are different from a diaphragm pump as the diaphragm doesn't plunge into the fluid and doesn't move like a piston. See pump_mechanism=diaphragm for them.
Biger pumps should be driven by mechanical_driver=electric_motor but you may find them on drinkable water fountains as well, like illustration below.
