Most common values
Due to comma-separated nature of destination tagging schema, using Taginfo templates to determine most common values is not feasible. Therefore I created a small script that used taginfo api to query 2500 most common values for all 6 subkey variants and output top 120 of them into table. Data is provided as of 3 April 2021. In following table, uses are counted on per-tag basis, meaning that multiple uses of same symbol within tag are counted as same use (e.g 50 uses of motorway|motorway|motorway;airport are counted as 50 uses of airport and 50 uses of motorway). Note capitalization of some values.
- Green - value is present on page
- Yellow - there is similar tag already present on page or in this list
- Red - value is not present on page

- @Fghj753: can you share this script under some open source license? Either directly here or by posting to gist/github etc? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 22:19, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Mateusz Konieczny: I'm not sure how wiki talk replies work. Link to github In far future, when that link no longer works, try some repo's subdirectory. Fghj753 (talk) 22:36, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
S-Bahnis IMO an important value, though for these I've added, I useds-traininstead under the idea that it's more generic thanS-Bahn(so you can have country dependent values) but also because it's used in other tags as well.U-Bahnis similar since it's synonymous tosubway(it's actually crazy how more common it is compared tosubway, though). --ManuelB701 (talk) 16:33, 27 November 2024 (UTC)- Commuter is the common English word for S-Bahn. - The differentiation between the symbols "S" and "U" for Stadtbahn, S-Bahn vs. U-Bahn" may be a quite specific German issue. If you want to have the possibility for reconstructing the correct symbol from the tag than you have to differentiate between the different types of "commuters". Therfore I think it could be useful to keep U-Bahn and S-Bahn as the terms are not translatable.
- There are in fact regional differences: e.g.: in Hamburg and Berlin you have narrow-gauge U-Bahn (even if it may be not a subway) in contrast to the standard gauge "S-Bahn" that shares the railway with the long distance trains. In other cities where you have a tramway it is sometimes called "Stadtbahn" and uses narrow-gauge railways but the Symbol "S" (e.g. Bielefeld). Btw: I'm stumbling about the term "subway"... isn't the British English term (as recommended in the tag guidelines) "underground"? Or is "underground" only a brand name?
