Osm2go discontinued!?

I contacted Till Harbaum. He said that he is not working on the project anymore and suggested to remove the complete Wiki page.

I would also guess that Osm2go does not interact with the OSM API anymore.

Does anybody have any recent experience?

I have confirmation now that Osm2go does not function anymore. Error message: "Could not connect to host".

--NachtSpazz 20:00, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Problem is that api.openstreetmap.org now seems to have an IPv6 (AAAA) record but libcurl does not retry with IPv4 after the IPv6 request failed.

I added a workaround to the main page.

Great! Thanks a lot. I will try it out.

I found OSM2Go while searching for an OSM editor for a tablet running some kind of "pure" Linux (not Android). The background is that I hope to receive a PengPod 1000 in a few months and OSM2Go seems to be suitable for mapping for instance house numbers. It would be a pity if a project like died just because Maemo doesn't seem to have a future. Maybe it's possible to bring it back to life? :) --Erik Lundin 23:37, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

General

I am quite interested in helping this project (perhaps), so I have created a project at Gitorious. However, only having tarballs to deal with makes this a bit tricky. Bruce89 19:19, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Osm2Go now has a SVN trunk on garage.maemo.org: instructions at https://garage.maemo.org/scm/?group_id=830 . Say hi on the mailing list and bring ideas and patches! Till seems quite happy to give people VCS rights, and I seem to be in a position to do that myself. --achadwick 16:38, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

I think the new Nüvis from Garmin must be able to run OSM2GO (They are running Linux). That will be a great Package Use OSM Maps and when there are things missing ore fail we can easily edit them. At Home, we can upload them to the Server. So, we can work much more directly and can show the things at the Place that is intrested.

Dependencies for Ubuntu

Testing the install now. Dependencies:

- goocanvas - gnome-vfs-module-2.0

need to be documented. (Consider this a note to self)

Dependencies for Nokia Internet Tablets

Maybe the "Click to Install" link should be removed until a working package appears. At the moment osm2go 0.7.20-maemo1 fails to install on maemo 5.2008.43-7 with "Unable to install osm2go - Application packages missing: libssl0.9.8 (>= 0.9.8f-5)"

Unfortunately no one seems to be looking at the bug tracker: - https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=4569&group_id=830&atid=3360

That should have been a maemo dependency problem, has gone away meanwhile.--Village 20:34, 7 April 2012 (BST)

WMS server support

NASA satellite imagery  : Could someone gives insights on the bounding boxes of the different imageries available and more what WMS are supported to be added and to trace over for OSM ? --Samusz 02:37, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Still alive?

Hi, I hope that this is just a personal feeling but I am a bit afraid about the state of this application. It is a cool project, but I guess it lacks a bit of support from the community. And therefore also a bit of less interest by the developer(s). At least that is the impression that I get if I take a look on the mailing lists :-/ cu AssetBurned 11:51, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

hmm last commit was in january 2010 :-/ cu AssetBurned 19:32, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Preset for speciallised tagging

Hi,

you might know KeypadMapper for dedicated mapping of housenumbers. Might there be a way to add similar feature to this editor. E.g. for adding levels=* to buildings so you can save time by adding the informations already in the field instead of collecting them and spending time again at home to add the corresponding tags --!i! Critical Bug in OSM2go?!

Hi,

I like OSM2go, but in almost all sessions where I edit the maps I have problems with uploading the changes and get error messages like the followinng ones:

New way failed, code: 412 Precondition Failed
Server reply: Precondition failed: Way requires the nodes with id in (-2136724439,-2136724408), which either do not exist, or are not visible.

or

Modified way #38193536 failed, code: 412 Precondition Failed

Server reply: Precondition failed: Way 38193536 requires the nodes with id in (-2136724382,-2136724158), which either do not exist, or are not visible.

Does anybody have an idea how I can avoid these errors? I have no idea which of my editing habits cause them.

Candidates(?):

  • Nodes that I added to an existing way and which I subsequently use as part of an additional way
  • Splitting of ways
  • Aborting the procedure to add a new way

--NachtSpazz (talk) 22:44, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

I think that I found the problem: It seems that OSM2go uses 4 byte signed integers for node ids (at least on my N900 Maemo). Since node ids in OSM have passed the critical value 2^31 (2147483648), OSM2go uses negative numbers during upload (when modifying such nodes or when they are part of a way).

Is this the end of OSM2go?

Osm2go is now supported by AMDmi3. Download source code and file issues here. --Zverik (talk) 15:39, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
