Not used tag

The Wiki describes used tags, see Disclaimer and Creating a page describing key or value. This tag is not used in the database, so it shouldn't be on the Wiki. maro21 17:45, 7 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

At has two or three uses, starting an hour ago. Pietervdvn (talk) 17:50, 7 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
If it's really a company - it should be capitalized. What is the website of this company? This article is completely unredable for me. maro21 21:00, 7 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
We can discuss about the capitalization; I don't really care about that ;) . I also apologize if the page wasn't easy to read. I've added some information; please let me know if things are still unclear. It is indeed a bit a weird page, because it also explains why a certain way of tagging is _not_ possible. I've also added an overpass-script to show that there indeed are quite some Changing Places mapped around the world, though in a very haphazard way, so there really is a need for this. --Pietervdvn (talk) 21:51, 7 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • The article is too long.
There is no restriction on wiki page length. I think all the parts in here are necessary to understand the context of this type of amenity. --Pietervdvn (talk) 17:56, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • The article should describe not "Changing Places" [whatever it is] but the TAG and how it's used and together with which tags. On the page key:dog we don't describe dogs.
But amenity=bench, amenity=bank, amenity=drinking_water all do. We need a clear definition on what something is in order to know when to add a tag or not. --Pietervdvn (talk) 17:56, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
This is a valid critique. From a pragmatic point of view, I did opt for brand=changing place, because it somewhat feels like this and allows for some uniformity in tagging - it is better then the current practice of stuffing the "changing place" in tags such as name, description, note, note:wheelchair, or any variation of that. I would love to have something as certificate=* for this, but this type of tag does AFAIK not exist. (Even though, technically, the certificate would be UK centric). I'm open for suggestions and will gladly retag everything when a more appropriate tag is found. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. --Pietervdvn (talk) 17:56, 14 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi everyone, for me the tag brand=changing_place is good. We suggested amenity=changing_place, but since the name changing place has been licenced putting it under the brand tag is fine. Maybe we can also add the official logo/icon to it like OSM does for branded shops? With the On Wheels app we will be using this tag instead of the amenity tag we suggested. Than we we tag it as toilet:wheelchair and add tag brand:changing_place to it. While the logo and name are licensed, they are commonly used everywhere, by other organisation and even governments. In the UK changingplaces.org give the certificates, but not in the rest of Europe. RobinJulien (talk) 14:58, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hey Robin,
> Maybe we can also add the official logo/icon to it like OSM does for branded shops?
There is no 'OSM' in this case. There are various pieces of software working together.
The part that shows the brand icons and names that you think of is the iD-editor (the editor you open when clicking edit.)
Those are in turn fetched from the https://nsi.guide/ page - some other projects (MapComplete, and IIRC Vespucci, GO Map) use this as well. If you want a brand to appear there, you can add it yourself, see https://github.com/osmlab/name-suggestion-index/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#adding-new-entries
An important requirement is 'notability'. brand=changing_place currently has only 13 entries; IMHO you should aim for at least 200 before this would be considered 'notable'. Pietervdvn (talk) 15:42, 1 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
