merging under arch
I'm curious, could we not better merge this and a few other options also in use, all under man_made=arch, then specify arch=* ? I'm referring to Eastern cultures' archs, like what Wikipedia on Torii lists as similar:
- Hongsalmun, in Korean architecture with both religious and other usage
- Iljumun, portal in Korean temple architecture
- Mon (architecture)
- Paifang, in Chinese temple architecture
- Tam quan, in Vietnamese temple architecture
- Torana, in Hindu-Buddhist Indian-origin also found in Southeast Asia and East Asia
this would allow us request one rendering, to just recognize man_made=arch, and keep more variety to the values for the arch=* part.
btw: Torana/Torii appearing to have the same root as Door, it would be reasonable to bring them under the same tag.
other options I have met have no asssociation to Eastern societies, but quite similarly represent a point where you enter a different environment, think of the "gate to the desert" in Morocco (Errissani), or the gates to Chinatown all over the world. again other option: the ancient Roman Arcs of Triumph, scattered all over the Mediterranean, and Roman Europe. - Besides pai fong, there is pai lau. It is more elaborate than an arch, with a significant superstructure on top. They are not limited to temples (even not mainly found in temples from my impression), used in everything to commemorate and mark a gateway. --- Kovposch (talk) 10:56, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
