Deprecated or balloon anchoring

It's not clear why this tag is "deprecated". It's still needed for balloon:type=tethered Rtfm (talk) 07:35, 26 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

The tag is deprecated for use with power lines and power poles. Current occurrences are in combination with power lines. The tag is not used with balloon:type=tethered. However, tower:type=radar and balloons are used. Therefore, a tag value conflict would arise here as well (radar vs anchor). For these two reasons, it might be better to invent a different tag for balloon anchoring. --Chris2map (talk) 08:43, 26 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I see, didn't notice the tower tagging before https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/21ad. IMHO those should also be tagged "anchor", because the radar is in the balloon. The tower is just an anchor (or, if they were free-flying, a "mooring"). The current definition : monitoring:radar=surveillance. Other ideas ? Rtfm (talk) 12:54, 27 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I agree that the radar information can and should be tagged more precisely. Regarding the anchor: I don't want to rule out redefining it, but I haven't yet finished considering whether there's an elegant and even more meaningful alternative. Terms that come to mind are: anchorage, fastening, mounting. Either pure or combined with a balloon (balloon_anchorage ...). I'm not really into tethered balloons, either technically or linguistically. So maybe someone else can contribute here more or better?! --Chris2map (talk) 17:01, 27 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I also wasn't into balloons at all until I stumbled on aeroway=launchpad used for balloon launches. For the time being, I'm fine with the "old" tag, just the line_attachment=anchor entries should be cleaned up. Isn't there an automated procedure which may be used ?
