Discuss Tag:waterway=stream here:

Old discussions (2006/2007 while a proposal) have been moved to Tag:waterway=stream/Archive

stream=intermittent

I notice the NHD imports in the US are resulting a lot of waterway=stream data. Among other combo tags it's including these:

stream=intermittent
stream=ephemeral
stream=perennial
stream=fixme

Stream that doubles as a track

How do I tag a stream that is also a off-road track when the banks are dry? --ika-chan! (talk) 19:43, 5 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Best practice is to create a separate way (line) and add the tag highway=track to that new line, along with the name of the track. If you use the same way for the track and the stream, then the name=* would be ambiguous: is it the name of the stream or the name of the track? --Jeisenbe (talk) 13:59, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Streams with ponds in the middle

Mention how to map a stream that enters one end of a lake/pond and leaves via the other end. Jidanni (talk) 04:50, 20 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Artificial Stream in a park?

How do I tag an artificial stream inside a park? It is man made and has no connection to other streams or rivers.

I read that "artificial=yes" should be used. Is this right? If yes, please add to the documentation. Bubeck (talk) 08:22, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

There are 11 uses with this combination, so far. (sophox query). So you can use it but it still isn't in wide usage to document it as the way to tag it, although I don't know an alternative, if waterway=ditch doesn't fit. -- Chris2map (talk) 09:44, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
