Message for User:Naveenpf:

Hi Naveenpf

Welcome to the OpenStreetMap project! There's plenty of mapping to be done in Kerala. You can even help create maps using aerial imagery. See India#Instant armchair Mapping. Get stuck in!

OpenStreetMap 10th Birthday

For the 10th Birthday (which is this coming Saturday) I saw you added an india section. Any ideas for events happening there? Want to organise something? -- Harry Wood (talk) 13:24, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Translation Script

̝Thanks for the link. I have created a small script for JOSM that will add "nameːml" tags to places without them by searching over a dictionary file (a CSV file with Malayalam counterparts of English names). I have also compiled a sample dictionary from the LSG website. The script on running shows 258 places as translable (Have not uploaded the result yet). It can be downloaded from the below link. Usage instructions are described in the readme file.

https://github.com/manuvarkey/JOSM-Translation-Script

This script can be used to suit any language with minor modification and can be used to translate road names with some work. --Manuvarkey (talk) 10:47, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi Manu, this looks good.I think we can use this. -- Naveenpf (talk) 11:30, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Manu, please update with current 258 places. We have 2592 nodes to have ml tags. We will create csvs to upload that later -- Naveenpf (talk) 18:11, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Done --Manuvarkey (talk) 04:48, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Page moves

Hi Naveenpf,

You recently moved some pages and thereby created some double redirects. This is not supported by the wiki. Would be nice if you can fix it. You can find a list of double redirects at Special:DoubleRedirects.

Map internationalization explanation

reply to https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Foundation/AGM19/Election_to_Board&curid=244427&diff=1921134&oldid=1921047

Note that "dropdown language bar would solve the issue" is not as simple as it sounds. Map displayed on the OSM website is made of raster tiles, with names being part of the images. As result making two versions for two different languages would almost double server usage. And there is no spare capacity for that. And to make 10 languages it would require 10 more times server capacity.

Vector tiles are something that can solve this specific problem (while creating some new ones), there is also an option of combining raster background tiles with vector tiles for names Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 10:29, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

@Mateusz Konieczny: I know Vector tile is the solution. Wanted to know if board members has thought of it. On Server capacity, I had chat with Andy. What he told was it maynot require current infra itself -- Naveenpf (talk) 11:57, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

Missing file information

Hello! And thanks for your upload - but some extra info is necessary.

Sorry for bothering you about this, but it is important to know source of the uploaded files.

Are you the author of image File:LSG Election Kerala 2020.jpg ?

Or is it copied from some other place (which one?)?

Please, add this info to the file page - something like "I took this photo" or "downloaded from -website link-" or "I took this screeshot of program XYZ".

Doing this would be already very useful.

Licensing - photos

In case that you are the author of the image: Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?

In case where it is a photo you (except relatively rare cases) author can make it available under a specific free license.

Would you be OK with CC0 (it allows use without attribution or any other requirement)?

Or do you prefer to require attribution and some other things using CC-BY-SA-4.0?

If you are the author: Please add {{CC0-self}} to the file page to publish the image under CC0 license.

You can also use {{CC-BY-SA-4.0-self}} to publish under CC-BY-SA-4.0 license.

Once you add missing data - please remove {{Unknown|subcategory=uploader notified March 2022}} from the file page.

Licensing - other images

If it is not a photo situation gets a bit more complicated.

See Drafts/Media file license chart that may help.

note: if you took screenshot of program made by someone else, screenshot of OSM editor with aerial imagery: then licensing of that elements also matter and you are not a sole author.

note: If you downloaded image made by someone else then you are NOT the author.

Note that in cases where photo is a screenshot of some software interface: usually it is needed to handle also copyright of software itself.

Note that in cases where aerial imagery is present: also licensing of an aerial imagery matter.

Help

Feel free to ask for help if you need it - you can do it for example by asking on Talk:Wiki: new topic.

Please ask there if you are not sure what is the proper next step. Especially when you are uploading files that are not your own work or are derivative work (screenshots, composition of images, using aerial imagery etc).

If you are interested in wider discussion about handling licencing at OSM Wiki, see this thread.

(sorry if I missed something that already states license and source: I am looking through over 20 000 files and fixing obvious cases on my own, in other I ask people who upladed files, but it is possible that I missed something - in such case also please answer)

Authorship

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/?diff=2369543&oldid=2369195 - just to clarify - you are author of the photo, not of the article/map, right? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 12:12, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

I have created the map -- naveenpf 10:20, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
