Can you help me develop a tagging convention for streets and roads in Brazil? The guide for mapping in Brazil only mention motorways and federal highways, we need to extend this to state highways, other highways and local roads as well. I don't know about North, but in Espirito Santo, lots of the state highways in the scarcely populated areas have dirt surface, only with limited areas with paved or cobbled surface, while the bigger roads generally have asphalt surface. I have started to clean up some of the tagging in ES. --Skippern 00:33, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- I have no specific knowledge regarding the official road classification. Of course, here in the north, dirt roads are extremely common, and often have the function of "primary" or "secondary" roads (according to the descriptions on the english wiki page -- "connecting villages" etc.). We tag these accordingly, and the rest as "unclassified" if the road is somehow maintained by the municipality, or "track" if it is in a more precarious condition. However, I'll ask around if somebody of the Brazilian colleagues knows something about the road classification. A problem for me are also the dirt roads in less well-off parts of the town, where "residential road" is correct from the "social" point of view, but in the eye of an engineer it would at best be a track grade 5 (have you seen the pictures from Bragança?) --Ulf Mehlig 12:02, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
