OpenHistoricalMap considers its database to be a collective work. Records in this database are in the public domain by default via a CC0 dedication. If you copy data wholesale from a copyrighted (but freely licensed) third-party source, you should respect its license by adding license=* and attribution=* tags to each individual feature. If the license stipulates the precise wording of the attribution, you should reproduce it faithfully in attribution=* tag.
Regardless of whether a license requires attribution, you should credit any nontrivial use of a source, as a matter of academic honesty. Use source=* to cite a source more generally in a format that is not dictated by a license. If you use a source substantially, consider also crediting it on the OpenHistoricalMap/Sources page.
