Separate objects, and unifying features

From https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/rfc-feature-proposal-unification-of-post-parcel-keys/105208/3

There is an ever greater need to determine how best to represent a combination of amenity=parcel_locker , amenity=post_box , and amenity=letter_box functions, over renaming for uniformity. Much difference in how the amenity=* feature is chosen, causing a lack of consistency and expectation.

Hey, @Kovposch: Yes, this is an important point, but it has primarily nothing to do with the "expansion" of the parcel lockers with additional services - right? I also see that these issues with the cluster mailboxes is important. But how you want to map it would primarily then be dealt with in a separate proposal. --SafetyIng (talk) 22:01, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

You aren't handling whether amenity=post_box can be added inside or next to a amenity=parcel_locker . Then the amenity=parcel_locker + letter_from=* would potentially duplicate with it.
And why can't someone say this is a amenity=post_box + parcel_to=yes + parcel_from=yes instead?

Rationale

rationale section is missing explanation why unification is supposed in such direction, why packstation are supposed to be tagged with post office tags. Parcel lockers are not post offices.

Hey @Mateusz Konieczny: I have updatet the rationale section. Thank you for this input. --SafetyIng (talk) 22:06, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
Thanks! Though I completely disagree with "Technically, parcel locker and the new post stations are also "post_offices"". I could understand "post_office:" prefix is wrong and incorrect, but not too much. But claiming that pack station is post office is weird to me. Maybe it makes more sense in German? Maybe it makes sense for English native speakers? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 08:51, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
Hm. The story behind the stations (at least in Germany) is that in the past, parcels that could not be delivered directly on site were forwarded to a postal branch. But as these branches became fewer due to staffing and costs - and the number of parcels increased dramatically at the same time - the Packstations were added. First only for the "pick up" and this was then expanded that you can send directly to the Locker.
Effectively, this step of automation is being taken further and additional services are now being added there that were previously provided by the post offices. Especially in sparsely populated areas, this simply offers the advantage, as it is simply not economical to operate a post_office in small villages. --SafetyIng (talk) 09:03, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
In Poland they appeared as a new thing and were not replacing post offices - but rather last mile courier service (that arrives always at worst possible moment, at unexpected hour - while pack station can be used at any time of the day, for example on returning from work) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 21:23, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the look across the border. But can you understand the explanation or should I straighten something? It's also somehow an object that has established itself very quickly here in Germany and was then carried into the world primarily by the manufacturer. --SafetyIng (talk) 09:52, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
For me idea of "post_office:" on something that is not a post office at all is weird. For reference, Poland has around 40 000 of parcel lockers (inpost, orlen, allegro are major brands) and are quite widely mapped. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:59, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
Why strange? It just pulls the postal services together. Instead of any X post item having its own tagging. And post_office was already there first and is more powerful. --SafetyIng (talk) 12:16, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
postal_service: would add extra prefix and be ugly. post_office: is outright wrong and incorrect Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 15:50, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
postal_service:*=* was what the author drafted before though. Proposal:Unified postal service tagging

Deprecated

Resolved

"parcel_mail_in=* and parcel_pickup=* are deprecated" - can you give tagging examples how things are tagged now, and how will be tagged after change? Especially simplest and typical parcel locker. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 17:11, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

I've added a extra tagging section with an example. --SafetyIng (talk) 12:12, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
