Proposal talk:Wall tagging structure refinement
Concrete blocks
Analogous with surface=concrete:plates, you might want to consider material=concrete:blocks instead of material=concrete_block. --JeroenvanderGun (talk) 16:00, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
- A
material=concrete_blockis a well-defined standard construction element that's not just "concrete in block form". It has hollow cores to reduce weight, comes in certain standardized dimensions (like 8x8x16 inches), and has different structural properties than plain concrete. These are also called CMUs (concrete masonry units) in the construction industry, and I want to be able to distinguish them from concrete in block form. Nadjita (talk) 11:05, 28 August 2025 (UTC)- I disagree with both. Isn't these simply
material=concrete+wall:structure=*?wall:structure=masonryshould be clear they are in blocks.

Unclear and non-highlighted deprecations
This seems to be suggesting to replace wall=jersey_barrier with wall:structure=jersey_barrier instead of barrier=jersey_barrier ?
—— Kovposch (talk) 16:48, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not suggesting a replacement for it, because
barrier=jersey_barrieralready exist, and is used more often. I just want to deprecatewall=jersey_barrier, but I can explicitly suggest to usebarrier=jersey_barrierinstead. Nadjita (talk) 09:31, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
Dry-anything
wall:structure=dry_stone can be wall:structure=dry_laid / wall:structure=drystack without mentioning stones again
Dry_stone
—— Kovposch (talk) 16:49, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
- I am not a native speaker, but a friend of mine is a British stone fitter, and he said that the term "dry stone" is what everyone uses for this technique. I don't have any strong feelings against the other suggestions, so if that's what the native speaking majority prefers, then so be it. Nadjita (talk) 09:37, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
- I had another talk with the stone fitter, and he said that they also use the term "dry stacked" to describe the technique to create a dry wall, but "dry laid" would also work. Do you know if that's a BE/AE thing? If so, I would prefer to go with
wall:structure=dry_stackedto follow UK terminology. Nadjita (talk) 15:47, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
New functions
The new wall=* are best not proposed here, as they distract from the focus on structures. Eg I don't see properties alone in wall=boundary , which can include boundary=administrative for border walls.
