[W] Pole vaulting, also known as pole jumping, is a track and field event in which an athlete uses a long and flexible pole, usually made from fiberglass or carbon fiber, as an aid to jump over a bar.

How to map

Since athletics=pole_vault is an additional and non-physical tag, it should be combined with sport=athletics and one other top-level tag; e.g.:

  • leisure=track - For a pole vault runway.
  • leisure=pitch - For a pole vault landing pit.
  • leisure=practice_pitch - A small place set up for practicing a given sport, but not appropriate for a full event.
  • leisure=sports_centre - A sports centre is a distinct facility where multiple sports take place within an enclosed area (multiple rooms, pitches or combination).
  • leisure=stadium - A major sports facility with substantial tiered seating.
  • shop=sports - A shop selling sports equipment and clothing.
  • club=sport - A club for the purpose of playing or supporting one or more sports.

For runway

  • Draw a way way and add leisure=track
  • or draw the runway as an area area and add leisure=track + area=yes. The default OSM Carto stylesheet displays an area only if area=yes is present. This is not necessary for multipolygons since they are always handled as areas.

Then add sport=athletics and athletics=pole_vault. You can use pole_vault;long_jump if the runway is shared with long jump. You can add also surface=*.

For the pit

Draw an area area around the landing pit and add leisure=pitch, sport=athletics and athletics=pole_vault. You can add surface=*.
