Track and field, otherwise known as athletics, is a collection of sports which combine various athletic contests based on the skills of running, jumping, and throwing. The name is derived from the sport's typical venue: a stadium with an oval running track enclosing a grass field where the throwing and jumping events take place.
Track and field is often categorised under the umbrella sport of athletics, which also includes road running, cross country running, and race walking.

How to map

Since sport=athletics is a non-physical tag, it should be combined with other (physical) tags; e.g.:

• leisure=track - A track for running, cycling and other non-motorised racing such as horses, greyhounds, etc.
• leisure=pitch - An area designed for practising sport, normally designated with appropriate markings.
