[W] Running is a method of terrestrial locomotion, allowing humans to move rapidly on foot. This tag is generally synonymous with sport=running, which treats running as a sport independent from the broader athletics=* (track and field).

How to map

Since athletics=running is an additional and non-physical tag, it should be combined with sport=athletics and one other top-level tag; e.g.:

  • leisure=track - A track for running. See for instructions how to map common 400-metre oval running tracks.
  • leisure=sports_hall - A large single room that is suitable for practising sports indoors and doesn't have a "centre" character.
  • leisure=sports_centre - A sports centre is a distinct facility where multiple sports take place within an enclosed area (multiple rooms, pitches or combination).
  • leisure=stadium - A major sports facility with substantial tiered seating.
  • shop=sports - A shop selling sports equipment and clothing.
  • club=sport - A club for the purpose of playing or supporting one or more sports.

Similar tags

  • sport=athletics - A collection of sports which combines various athletic contests based on the skills of running, jumping, and throwing.
    • + athletics=sprint - An athletics disciplines in which athletes run as fast as possible (100 metres). Used only for a track straight with no bends.
    • + athletics=steeplechase - An athletics discipline in which athletes run over barriers and water jumps.
  • sport=running - This tag is generally synonymous with athletics=running, which treats running as a part of the broader sport of athletics=* (track and field).
  • route=fitness_trail - Route relation for a fitness trail
  • route=running - Running routes are named, numbered or otherwise signed routes used for sport exercise
