building:part=roof is used for permanent parts of a building that consist solely of a roof structure, with no vertical walls. Examples include fixed canopies, projecting entrance roofs, and other permanent open-sided roof structures.
For a connector with a clearly bridge-like deck or structure, consider building:part=bridge, even if it also has a roof. For an enclosed corridor, consider building:part=corridor instead.

Note that building:part=roof is not the same as just having roof:height equal to building:height.
In those renderers, you can override the default behavior (no walls) by adding wall=yes.
