Filters are generally used to remove undesired part of a signal and are also useful in alternative current power networks.

Harmonic filters are particularly used next to HVDC converters, to remove harmonic currents created by converters.
Other situations may occur to remove undesired frequencies as well, in industrial appliances for instance.

Filters are mainly found in substations, in modern power grids.
