A round tower is a tall, conical tower built in the early Middle Ages as a bell tower on an early Christian monastic site. The entrance usually faces the church building which might not have survived. Due to lack of foundations and for safety purposes, the entrance=* is usually not found on ground level, but was reached by means of a staircase which also often does not survive. Only two round towers are accessible to the public (access=public): the one in Kilkenny and the one in Kildare.
Be careful with follies and memorials in the shape of an Irish round tower which were not built in the Early Middle ages, use historic=tower instead.

Draw the area of the footprint of the round tower, add building=tower or building=ruins as well as man_made=tower. To identify it as a round tower, add historic=round_tower.
