A wind farm or wind park is a group of wind turbines used to produce electricity. The facility usually has a single name and is operated by a single operator, and in many cases will have its own substation. The power delivered is the sum of the power of all wind turbines.

To map a single wind turbine, see generator:source=wind.

How to map

Wind farms are mapped in OpenStreetMap as power plants. A wind farm should either be mapped as an area area or a relation relation.

Offshore wind farms

Offshore wind farms are usually mapped as areas area, because they are subject to restrictions on navigation. The area can be tagged with the appropriate Seamark tags to indicate this.

Draw the outline area and add:

Onshore wind farms

Onshore wind farms are usually sited on land which is used for other purposes, without a clear perimeter fence. These are mapped in OpenStreetMap as a dispersed power plant using a relation relation.

Create a relation relation and add the wind turbines as members (no role is required).

Add the following tags:

Do not add a boundary polygon to the site relation - dispersed power plants, by definition, don't have a surveyable boundary. Renderers (such as OpenInfraMap) can calculate the boundary automatically from the location of the turbines.
