Tracing-like representation of the paint, thermoplastic, or otherwise-lined road markings that denote where vehicles should stop before intersections/crossings. The direction can be mapped via the direction=forward/backward tag.

History

In 2017, thousands of stop line ways were imported in San Jose, California (which has one of the largest concentrations of signalized intersections in the United States), and Phoenix, Arizona, based on data gathered by a vendor of traffic signal systems. They were initially tagged highway=stop_line based on a draft proposal. After some discussion on the talk-us mailing list, these ways were retagged road_marking=solid_stop_line. [1] As of August 2022, this import remains the largest single addition of stop lines in OSM and one of the largest additions of road_marking=*.
