Status: in use

This tag can have different meanings depending on the context in which it is used. It is most commonly used in combination with highway=service, but may also be used on a shop=* that provides fuel to customers.

Unclosed way

This tag is used with highway=service to specify that the service road provides access to a fuel pump. The pumps must be tagged amenity=fuel.

Node or Area

Service tags can specify services provided by a business. If the business primarily exists to provide fuel to customers, it should be tagged amenity=fuel, and service=fuel is unnecessary. If the business primarily provides some other goods or services, but also provides fuel, this tag should be used in addition to shop=* (e.g. shop=car or shop=car_repair).
