Auxiliary transformers intend to supply power to substation internal systems or power grid operator premises.

They're not feeding any subscriber connected to power grid but act as a load on the substation architecture. They use to be smaller than actual main transformers.

Use this value on transformer fully designed to this role, transformers with a particular interface for auxiliary services among many other aren't covered by the value and are probably main.

They are usually smaller units, due to their small rating, located next to main transformers of the substation and are currently barely visible on common aerial imagery. They may be seen in place, outside from the substation, or from upcoming higher resolution aerial imagery. Mapping of such unit may become more convenient in coming years.

We can also find them on power poles, to supply remote control devices for switches, especially on distribution power grids. These particular situations were described in the transformer classification proposal.

Some remote switches mostly installed on distribution networks can be found on top of poles. Some of them are remotely controllable and need power to operate. A small transformer is installed on the pole to get its power directly from the network. It acts as an auxiliary transformer to feed the local operator's premises without ay subscriber connected.
