MAPS.ME License

Why is it stated that maps.me has a proprietary license? It's distributed under Apache 2.0.

  • Released MAPS.ME version no longer matches what is in Apache 2.0 licensed repositories, making it proprietary. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 10:20, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

Dead projects

What should be done with dead projects? Remove them? Move them to a separate page? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 11:32, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

I say delete them. Its easier to do then transferring them to a separate page. so it has a better chance of actually being done by someone regularly. Also, there is zero utility in keeping a list of dead software on the wiki that I can think of. Except for indulging in someones fever dream of the wiki being a place to "maintain the history of OpenStreetMap," instead of it being an actually usable site by everyone. If need be, there's no reason that kind of thing can't be added to a personal page or somewhere else off site. As it is though there seems to be a serious lack off up keep all around. So the less things that get in the way of that the better. --Adamant1 (talk) 01:20, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
Just move to the bottom of the list, I say. The fact that there is a dozen plus applications doing the very same thing show that open source developers start to code before looking for a project to contribute :) maybe having a list of projects to ressurect is better than letting folks add to the future-list of dead projects. --Gcb (talk) 19:41, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
I removed first group of thoroughly dead projects from list. There are still individual pages so in unlikely case of old code still useful many years later people may find it (though far more likely that active projects would be better base and inspiration) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 14:44, 24 March 2019 (UTC)

HarmonyOS apps

There are already a bunch of "ported" apps, I assume the functionalities are the same as with Android ? (a separate page would need more manual editing, so probably an additional column would make more sense ?)

They aren't actually ported. HarmonyOS uses a Linux kernel that allows it to run Android apps on the side of LiteOS. So, an additional column specifically for HarmonyOS wouldn't make sense. Maybe it would make sense to mention somewhere in the article that HarmonyOS supports Android apps that use OSM data. Just like it will good to mention it when Windows 11 starts supporting them, but unfortunately lists aren't really conducive to listing every single possible fringe use case. Which is why it doesn't list every single Android fork that supports OSM based apps or the particular nuances of doing so either. And operating systems that have Android app functionality through side loading are no different then Android forks. --Adamant1 (talk) 06:53, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
So the info on Wikipedia is wrong ?  HarmonyOS#HarmonyOS_apps rtfm Rtfm (talk) 14:45, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
Which info on Wikipedia conflicts with Adamant1 comment? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 18:50, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
