Create a proposal instead?

The tag shop=hgv has been used 12 times, and the other tags like hgv:sales have only been used once each. Perhaps it would be better to use the Proposal_process and discuss this with other mappers? Since this page combines shop=hgv and hgv:rental/sales/repair, it would make more sense as a proposal too. --Jeisenbe (talk) 03:38, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

It looks like User:Dieterdreist agrees with changing this to a proposal. Does anyone object to moving the page? --Jeisenbe (talk) 03:19, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:hgv is an established expression, so why switch to "truck" ? It's a vehicle "main type" such as bicycle, motorcycle, car. Feel free to discuss this on the mailing list. Regarding the "subtags" I don't think they should be discussed every time "from scratch", but standardised (sales, repair, rental, parts applies to nearly every product, i.e. shop type). Please check this Namespace_tag_overview as a basis for the discussion. This (scheme) should be consolidated instead of "fiddling around" and discussing whether some tag has already been used enough to document it (hen egg problem). I think we all agree that (numerous) trucks / hgv exist and therefore there should be an expression for it (the described tagging syntax) ? Please also take care to consolidate the different tagging of vehicle services. The car tagging is a mess since 2 years and bicycle has a prefix nobody knows what it might be good for. user:rtfm Rtfm (talk) 17:39, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
hgv is established as a legal access class. It is not particularly welcome, because it goes against standard practices (no abbreviations), but it is established and accepted as an exception (dating back to the early days). No need to extend this usage on other fields where we can still have a more consistent approach. If you look at shop=car, the legal access restriction is "motorcar". It is an advantage, not a problem, to use different keys for completely different kind of concepts. Also note, that shop=truck has significantly more usage than shop=hgv, although it was completely undocumented until yesterday. Take this as a sign that the tag is more intuitive. --Dieterdreist (talk) 11:14, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
