highway colours

First of all I want to say, that you've done a great job with this whole tool and with the render style in particular. But I noticed the difference between highway=primary and highway=secondary is very hard to see. I think a red tone for highway=primary would be very good (and similar to common physical street maps as the rest of your style).

I updated the color (quite some time ago). Do you think it's good now? -- Skunk 14:10, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
yes, now the difference is better to see -- Gnuzifer 17:43, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Webpage Interface Improvements

  • Clicking on "Map Key" toggles the visibility of the map key on the right of the webpage. A close button or an "X" icon on the map key itself, which let's one close the map key again, could improve usability of the webpage. -- SB79 09:32, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
  • On the left sidebar, you name vending machines, post boxes and telephones if they have a ref=*-Tag, otherwise they appear as (noname). If ref=* is empty, you could use the operator=*-Tag to display something more meaningful. --Dwi Secundus 17:36, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
    • Done (next update) -- Skunk 04:18, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
  • Sidebar menu in different languages ? --BogNik 20:04, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Code for this already exists, but still somebody has to translate it :) I'm thinking about some community process options. Not before summer I suppose. If I could get enough CPU-power I would also be interested in localizing the tiles. -- Skunk 05:01, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Power

Ich wünsche mir, dass Stromleitungen bzw. power facilities im Bereich "Transportation" aufgenommen werden. --Bahnpirat 14:01, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Wird mit dem naechsten Update dargestellt. -- Skunk 05:28, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Meta Information for Buildings

I'm tagging many buildings atm - wouldn't an Layer be great, that offers meta-information about buildings or shops etc - containing Description-Text, Opening hours and so on? Just as an popup if you click on any building, that would be really great --DarkMoonWolf 11:21, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Opening Hours will be displayed in the side pane. Anything more? -- Skunk 04:51, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

not building-related but collection_times for post-boxes were great too --Gkai 09:43, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Website tags

Hi, I tag the websites of the objects would be cool if you would make the links clickable in the sidebar. This would allow endusers to get furthe informations to an object. A nice behavoiur for a "browser" :-) --!i! 08:25, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

They _are_ clickable. (tags 'website' or 'url'). -- Skunk 13:25, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Local Bus routes

Bus routes tagged as network=local are rendered, but not shown in the list on the left, even when zooming quite far in (e.g. lines 81 & 83 in Graz). -- A uller 10:52, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip. Fixed. -- Skunk 19:27, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

More Bugs

  • Typo under Amenities for Cycling and Hiking: Bicycle Shps
  • Food and Drink seems to list all types of vending machines. It should only list those having to do with eating and drinking.
  • Under Car and Motorcycle, shop=motorcycle is not listed.

--Dwi Secundus 15:03, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Fixed the typo. With the vending machines I have a technical problem right now, but this will work after OpenStreetBrowser/Stylesheet ist correctly parsed (it will be used for the Overlays starting with next data import). shop=motorcycle should be listed, maybe OSB is based on old data? If the problem persists after next data import then please tell me details (position or id of the shop). Anyway ... thanks a lot for reporting! -- Skunk 06:08, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! You're right, shop=motorcycle is listed. This was my fault as it's in OSM since more than a month. --Dwi Secundus 13:57, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
No, it's okay. Country-Names are only rendered up to zoomlevel 9 (in my opinion it doesn't make sense in higher zoom levels because the country name is usually at some arbitrary place which you are not likely to see anyway). The big black dot highlights a point (any point, this could also be a shop). -- Skunk 21:22, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
  • The search result should have the "back to overview" link, to go back to the category browser.
  • House number interpolation: This is correct as far as the interpolating way points from lower to higher house numbers. If the way points against the running numbers only the start and end number is displayed - but not the interpolated numbers (e.g. Fockestr. in Bonn, way 29403587 is correct, way 31823393 and 31823394 are incorrect) -- Fidoez 15 May 2009 (UTC)
The interpolated housenumbers never get rendered, they are only displayed in the list of housenumbers in the street. And they are displayed and the positions are correctly interpolated. E.g. (Housenumber 23 of this street). But I should write the full address to the Sidepane, that's right. -- Skunk 05:37, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
I do not talk about rendering I talk about housenumbers displayed in the list of housenumbers in the street. Housenumber 12 and 14 are missing in the list of way 31823394 or 30, 32, 34 in the list of way 31823393. But if I use http://www.openstreetbrowser.org/#way_31823394_12 the dot in the map is shown correctly. -- Fidoez 17 May 2009 17:00 (UTC)
You are right, I will have a look at the code. -- Skunk 16:27, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Fixed. -- Skunk 04:18, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
  • The list of public transportation stops seems incomplete. Does it include all tram_stop, bus_stop, bus_station, pier,... ? -- Pmz 14:50, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Currently it includes highway=bus_stop, railway=tram_stop, railway=station, railway=halt, amenity=bus_station, aeroway=terminal, aerialway=station, amenity=ferry_terminal. Apparently I missed pier, anything more that I missed? And (known bug), stops with out a name are not included in the list. -- Skunk 16:27, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for this. I didn't see that the tram stations were appearing above zoom 15. Concerning the pier, I finally don't know if you can consider it always like a "boat_stop". I'll use the ferry_terminal tag on the piers I tagged. --Pmz 11:59, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Fixed. Should work after next update (hopefully after next weekend) -- Skunk 17:47, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, looks like that now the other routes are missing which have been there before. Eg. Relation: 64363 -- Tgoti 07:35, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
  • When I try to display Leisure, Sport and Tourism / Cycle and Hiking Routes it outputs a php error:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /osm/osm/www/inc/list_routes.php on line 62
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /osm/osm/www/inc/list_routes.php on line 85

I tried different areas, so it seems not to be raleted to the content of the area. -- LosHawlos 11:30, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

  • At low zoom, Nizhny Novgorod gets more prominence than Moscow. Not sure if this is a rendering or data bug. OliverLondon 15:42, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
It's a data bug. OpenStreetBrowser shows cities with > 1Mio inhabitants from zoom level 4, resp. >200k from zoom level 6, other cities from zoom level 7. N.N. has population=1000000, Moscow has no population (tag). Btw, the same from towns: >30k from zoom 8, other towns from zoom 10. -- Skunk 14:53, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
  • natural:bay is rendered in a kind of orange. For example Sognefjorden in Norway. I didn't find any way to correct the stylesheet. --Shekko 13:18, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
I assumed the same color as for natural=beach. I didn't get that this is actually a water area. Will be fixed with the next update. -- Skunk 18:59, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
  • In higher zoomlevels (15 and up) I get many white areas in the map where no tiles are displayed. Using HTTPFox I can see that I get an "404 Not Found" error on those tiles. corwin42 08:12, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
There's no real solution for this problem, except throwing more computing power at it. The tiles are rendered on-demand, if rendering takes too long (e.g. too busy), you will get an old rendering if there exists any. If not, it will be queued and rendered later (and you get the 404 error). Look at that part of the map later, it might already be filled with tiles. (Btw, it's the same for the main OSM-page, but there's more computing power and more parts of the world have already been rendered) -- Skunk 18:56, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
  • Website tag doesn't work, when there is already a "http://" in front of the adress. As a example: http://http//osm.org. --Derstefan 02:38, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

reloading to black forest...

If I try to call the openstreetbrowser using Fire Fox and IE with http://www.openstreetbrowser.org/?zoom=15&lat=49&lon=8.38 for the city of Karlsruhe, then it reloads and shows me the city of Villingen-Schwenningen on the other side and end of the black forest. If I look in the source code of the page, I find:

<body>
<script type="text/javascript">
var start_zoom=15;
var start_lon=8.38;
var start_lat=49;
var my_pos={ lon: 8.45, lat: 48.0667 };
var first_load=1;
</script>

So "my_pos" ist disturbing... How to drop it? --Mueck 15:55, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Oh, yes. I'm sorry. Fixed it. -- Skunk 19:30, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Would it be possible to manually change the position and save it into a Cookie? --E-Malte 19:34, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for fixing! --Mueck 21:39, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Download Free Software Source

Huh, at the moment I'm using a SVN server at my work, but maybe I should transfer
everything to the OSM-SVN? Then you can check out the newest version from there ...

I would like it in the OSM SVN. (this topic has been moved out of ideas, and been put in it's own section) Logictheo 10:48, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

I just need an account there ... I think I will discuss this on the State of the Map. If you want the source right now send me a private message with your e-mail-address, then I can send you a tgz. -- Skunk 19:29, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Just ask User:TomH for an account. He'll set one up for you. -- Harry Wood 12:40, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Stylesheet available?

Hello,

I really like your project, it's really great. The stylesheet is really nice too.

It would be really cool if you could upload it somewhere... I would like to use it (slightly modified) for some (personal) maps.

The source of OpenStreetBrowser is available in the OSM-SVN: http://svn.openstreetmap.org/sites/www.openstreetbrowser.org/ . But it's not that easy to just take some XML-File and you are done. There's a lot of preprocessing (date) and compiling (of the stylesheets) necessary. Look at the Install Instructions for more information. -- Skunk 11:21, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

route=trolleybus

Hi, could you please add the troleybus and minibus relations rendering to OpenStreetBrowser? In my city (Chisinau), public transport consists of buses (mostly suburban), trolleybuses and minibuses (12-15 seats, route has no fixed stops). Each type of public transport coveres about 20 routes, but OpenStreetBrowser currently shows bus routes only. Please, can you make relations containing route=trolleybus and route=minibus to get rendered the same way as route=bus? -- Jekader 19:19, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Update - I've set all of them as route=bus, but the trolleybus and minibus have extra tags bus=trolley and bus=minibus --Jekader 07:39, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
According to Routes it should be route=trolleybus and that's what I support (since end of August). (Before I supported route=trolley_bus, which is wrong. I corrected all routes in Europe - 5 of 6 were routes, that I had created). Sorry, didn't write back. route=minibus is active since ages (but there were no route=minibus in the database at the time you wrote to the Talk-Page). -- Skunk 13:23, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the answer. I'll just transform them back to the state they were - I've converted everything to route=bus so that the routes get rendered on öpnvkarte.de. So now they'll disappear from there, but appear on OpenStreetBrowser :) --Jekader 12:17, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

routing engine

Hi, routing works pretty good on Openstreetbrowser. I have seen the notice that routing is provided by Cloudmade, but nothing else about it. Most other OSM routing implemenations are based on some dijstrak variants as algorithm - and in my eye worse than the code used here (though it could be much better tag analysis only). Is the routing algorithm and implementation Opensource too? I am trying to build a programm that works with OSM in vector format as for me changing vector osm to raster can only be a temporary solution until good free vector software is around that is adapted for OSM.--Extremecarver 14:14, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

I'm using their public API: http://developers.cloudmade.com/projects/show/routing-http-api -- Skunk 11:21, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
