German signage and tagging

In Germany we have three signs that should be tagged with hazard=animal_crossing. I suggest using the following hazard:animal=* tagging, since the signs, by law, warn about a group of animals and not a specific animal or species. The depicted animals are only a symbol for the groups. I would like to discuss these tags before translating the page and making my suggestions somewhat "official" for Germany.

  • Zeichen 142-10 - Wildwechsel, Aufstellung rechts, StVO 1992.svg "Wildwechsel": Crossing of any wild animals such as deers, wild boars, wildcats, ... . hazard:animal=wild_animal
  • Zeichen 101-14 - Amphibienwanderung, StVO 2017.svg "Amphibienwanderung": Crossing of wild amphibians such as frogs, lizards, ... . Signs are only posted during mating season. hazard:animal=amphibian + seasonal=yes
  • Zeichen 101-12 - Viehtrieb, StVO 2017.svg: "Viehtrieb": Crossing of livestock such as cows, sheep, ... . The sign is officially outdated since 2017 but still found "in the wild". hazard:animal=livestock

I've just created the page with hazard:animal=* and added the above suggestions to that page. I expect that the signage and the exact values of animal will be somewhat country-specific, so whatever the German mapping community decides should probably be documented there as well. --ZeLonewolf (talk) 15:09, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
I'm wondering if hazard:animal=game for Wildwechsel would be better. I think it would fit better with the German definition of "Wild" and might be a bit more intuitive. But the other two I would use this way. --Hedaja (talk) 16:41, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
I would prefer "wild animal" because "game" refers to wild animals which are covered by the hunting law and would not cover, for example, wolves. I agree that most signs are posted due to crossing deers and wild boars (which are "game"). And I have to admit that most larger wild animals are covered by the hunting law and that I don't know if there is any Wildwechsel-sign because of wolves :-D. But... "wild animal" would keep it as universial as possible. Anyways, I'm also fine with "game". I hope for some more feedback before I translate the page. -- BlueG (talk) 17:12, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
I received a comment in the German OSM Telegram group: If the three traffic signs are tagged correctly with their IDs (i.e. traffic_sign=DE:142-10 for "Wildwechsel"), there is no need for hazard:animal=* anymore (speaking for Germany only). The traffic sign ID clearly indicates the type of hazard=animal_crossing with no need for further explanation. I agree to this comment and therefore suggest using only the traffic sign IDs for Germany instead of hazard:animal=*. But I would still mention the hazard:animal=* values above, since I am not sure how other German-speaking countries define this.
