Is it really necessary?

How this is considered leisure?
Also, can't this place be described with shop=beauty + beauty=tanning? --naoliv (talk) 13:36, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

All tanning salons I know of (they are fairly common in Denmark) are unstaffed (but regularly service). They are all self service and not really what I would consider "shops".--Hjart (talk) 14:14, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
Well, there are coin operated laundries https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-service_laundry . They are unstaffed as well and tagged with shop=laundry --Westnordost (talk) 19:06, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Exactly, shop=laundry is clearly wrong for laundromats and should be replaced with amenity=laundry. SimonPoole (talk) 18:49, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Two thumbs down on this, as I don't consider the activity "leisure," especially (first thumb down) in the same sense as other values of leisure=*. And, as mentioned (second thumb down): shop=beauty + beauty=tanning now captures this, with plenty of tagging extant that already does so. Stevea (talk) 19:19, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
A tanning salon is as much leisure as a place full of one armed bandits (leisure=adult_gaming_centre). Anyways, beauty=tanning is still a redlink in this wiki, and neither tagging alternative has a meaningful rendering in JOSM 19017 from March 2024. Vespucci project is listed in taginfo as having a specific icon for leisure=tanning_salon, but a generic beauty-shop icon for beauty=tanning, even though that is slightly more prevalent (4500 times versus 1500). I'd say the correct tagging is still not settled . Jbohmdk (talk) 08:35, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
