Difference with wilderness_hut and name ambiguity

Judging by just the "alpine_hut" vs "wilderness_hut" namee I'd imagine that the first is supposed to be used only for huts located in alpine environments (above or close to tree line, etc). However this distinction doesn't make much sense. Looking at wiki description it seems that the most important distinction is that "alpine_hut"'s are serviced and staffed. The distinction into serviced/staffed vs unserviced/not-staffed does make sense indeed. However the chosen "alpine_hut" name doesn't imply it anyhow and could lead to mismapping. E.g. serviced/staffed huts in New Zealands are mapped as "wilderness_huts" despite their location (could be a sea-side even). Very small bivvys are mapped as "wilderness_huts" also. --Pastk (talk) 15:24, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

I would expect so called "alpine huts" in mountains in general, also below tree line Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 18:29, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
I'd add that the "serviced" definition in NZ might differ from the European one. In NZ in "serviced" huts there is usually a caretaker, who also checks/manages payments/tickets, but is not supposed to "serve" people. --Pastk (talk) 11:48, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

Climbing huts in the UK

The linked Wikipedia article describes "Climbing huts" in the UK, however the "required properties" list in some way prevents this tag from being used - there isn't normally a "human presence" (there will be a caretaker or similar that looks after the building but they don't live on site) and "food" isn't usually provided (you normally have to bring your own food but cooking facilities are provided). Can the description be changed to remove the word "required" and change it to something like "common properties" or suchlike? It would also be good to mention that they are called climbing huts in the UK to help mappers find this tag. --Lakedistrict (talk) 17:47, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

Agreed. Availability of food is too specific IMO. E.g. in New Zealand the biggest / most popular serviced and staffed huts don't usually provide food, but by all other aspects they are "higher level" than wilderness huts. --Pastk (talk) 15:24, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

Additional tags

There was a list of useful tags including links and taginfo count. It seems User:Mateusz Konieczny removed them as either his PC/browser/internet connection was slow. I don't consider this as helpful for the community (removing info you otherwise need to search for). Linked tables don't need to be updated and may be easily edited (check the sourde code, it's just a list of values). If there would be a better option I could understand to change this, but just removing is destructive.
