Combination with service=*

Is there any reason that this tag shouldn't be combined with service=siding or service=crossover? About 1% of ways with usage=main currently are combined with service= according to taginfo: https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/?key=usage&value=main#combinations which is not a large amount, especially compared to usage=branch or other values of usage=* however. --Jeisenbe (talk) 19:35, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Services, routers, renderings using this tag?

Are there any map renderings or routing applications or other database applications which make use of this tag? It doesn't seem to be used by any of the renderers on openstreetmap.org at the moment. Openrailwaymap.org perhaps? --Jeisenbe (talk) 19:35, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/?key=usage&value=main#projects lists "SomeoneElse-style rural pedestran rendering" Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 19:51, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I also found out that OpenRailwayMap.org renders some types of usage=* differently. --Jeisenbe (talk) 06:27, 22 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
It is my understanding that ORM uses this tag to reduce the number of lines to render at low zoom levels. --DavideZH (talk) 16:00, 17 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
