A siding is a relatively short length of track, running parallel to (and connected to) a main route
The tag service=siding
is added railway=*
features for short lengths of track, running parallel to (and connected to) a through-route. A siding is generally used as a "passing zone" for trains, or as a storage area for rail cars (short or long term). In some cases, may be difficult to distinguish from two parallel main tracks.
See Siding (rail) on Wikipedia for more details.
How to Map
- Add the tag
service=siding
to a way that is tagged withrailway=*
feature to specify that it is a siding
