Welcome

The third UK Quarterly Project of 2024 (July, August, September) is on stale data.

Maintaining data is difficult. A well populated map can give the impression that it is more accurate than it really is. This project is to try and direct some attention on where the map may be less up-to-date than it appears.

Data Sources & Useful Tools

  • Stale Developments is a tool shows OSM objects related to construction/developments that have not had a change to them in more than 12 months.
  • Is OSM Up-To-Date? is a slippy map that can filter on node types and indicate the age of them based on last edit time. An example.
  • StreetComplete is a mobile app contains a number of quests that prompt users to check if potentially stale data is still up-to-date.
  • FHODOT compares food outlets that have official Food Hygiene Ratings with OSM data. The OSM layer highlights in pink OSM objects that have a non-existent fhrs:id=* tag. This often means the business has changed since the ID was added, and may need an update.
  • EveryDoor is a mobile editor that has a very good workflow for confirming the status of amenities and highlighting amenties that have not been updated in some time.
  • User osmuser63783 shared this Overpass query that can help direct surveys[1]
