Using "satellite imagery" equals yahoo maps or other legal sources?

As usual I manage to make my point by only typing the title. Cheers logictheo 19:54, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I'm using only legal sources: yahoo, landsat and IRS(russian part that was kindly given to OSM by ScanEx)

There was a lot of tracing errors in past time, at present time I'm trying to avoid tracing roads -- Upliner 20:50, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

BuildingTools plugin node to building converter

Hi Upliner,

You did a great job with your building tools plugin! Spacibo :-)

Maybe it could have an extra option:

When converting from nodes for house numbers to actual building outlines, it would be nice that the plugin detects that there is a node within the new building with address information. It could then copy all the tags/properties from this node to the new building and remove the node. What do you think about this? Does it sound feasible/useful?

Nice idea. Done. -- Upliner 15:34, 25 April 2011 (BST)
Cool feature! But I would like it even better if the original node wasn't deleted in the process. Perhaps you could reuse it as one of the corners? Or, or! Even better if that node could somehow become the building=entrance for the building! Not sure how to indicate where the entrance would be though... --Gorm 00:14, 7 June 2011 (BST)
Perhaps the entrance node could be placed at the middle of the wall that is closest to a highway. Then, as long as the building tool is selected, if one tries to move an entrance node, it only moves along the walls of the building without breaking the geometry? --Gorm 10:10, 2 September 2011 (BST)
Consider adding an option to the Address Dialog to allow the user to select the increment. For example, the neighborhood where I live increments addresses by 10, not 2. I suggest leaving the default at 2 and allowing the user to set other increments by entering an arbitrary value. — User8192 (talk) 21:55, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
I also needed this feature. It was simple enough to add, so I went ahead and did it myself. Here is the patch: https://gist.github.com/kreed/6652820 . Please consider including it. --Kre3d (talk) 18:19, 21 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello Upliner, thank you very much for a great plugin, it really makes building buildings so much easier.

Is it possible to include an option to autojoin overlapping areas when drawing them, this would reduce the number of clicks for creating strange shaped buildings even more, as the user would not have so select all the small squares and then join them in a separate action.

BuildingsTools: [FeatueRequest] keep history when merging address node

When merging address point into building outline (either manually via Data / Merge address points or automatically when drawing building over address point), it seems that old address POI node is simply deleted. It would be much better if its history was preserved, i.e. old address node reused as one of the building corners (e.g. like utilsplugin2 does via ctrl-shift-g) --mnalis (talk) 22:03, 25 November 2022 (UTC)

BuildingsTools: [FeatueRequest] round houses

Hi, first of all, thanks for the handy tool :) I'm mapping a lot of HOT tasks where there are not only rectangular buildings, but also round huts. Therefore I'm switching often between the BuildingsTool and draw line & Shift+O & Shift+R. Would it be possible to add a "round house" mode, for example hitting Ctrl and then two clicks? --Athalis (talk) 16:49, 14 January 2016 (UTC)

Missing file information

Hello! And thanks for your upload - but some extra info is necessary.

Sorry for bothering you about this, but it is important to know source of the uploaded files.

Are you the author of image File:Lolcat RU.png ?

Or is it copied from some other place (which one?)?

Please, add this info to the file page - something like "I took this photo" or "downloaded from -website link-" or "I took this screeshot of program XYZ".

Doing this would be already very useful.

Licensing - photos

In case that you are the author of the image: Would you agree to open licensing of this image, allowing its use by anyone (similarly to your OSM edits)?

In case where it is a photo you (except relatively rare cases) author can make it available under a specific free license.

Would you be OK with CC0 (it allows use without attribution or any other requirement)?

Or do you prefer to require attribution and some other things using CC-BY-SA-4.0?

If you are the author: Please add {{CC0-self}} to the file page to publish the image under CC0 license.

You can also use {{CC-BY-SA-4.0-self}} to publish under CC-BY-SA-4.0 license.

Once you add missing data - please remove {{Unknown|subcategory=uploader notified March 2022}} from the file page.

Licensing - other images

If it is not a photo situation gets a bit more complicated.

See Drafts/Media file license chart that may help.

note: if you took screenshot of program made by someone else, screenshot of OSM editor with aerial imagery: then licensing of that elements also matter and you are not a sole author.

note: If you downloaded image made by someone else then you are NOT the author.

Note that in cases where photo is a screenshot of some software interface: usually it is needed to handle also copyright of software itself.

Note that in cases where aerial imagery is present: also licensing of an aerial imagery matter.

Help

Feel free to ask for help if you need it - you can do it for example by asking on Talk:Wiki: new topic.

Please ask there if you are not sure what is the proper next step. Especially when you are uploading files that are not your own work or are derivative work (screenshots, composition of images, using aerial imagery etc).

If you are interested in wider discussion about handling licencing at OSM Wiki, see this thread.
