The key education=* is used along with the more common amenity=* key (e.g., amenity=school, amenity=university, amenity=kindergarten, etc.) to map educational features.

education=* and amenity=*
In 2025, the key education=* was approved as the recommended key for tagging all education features. Just like the healthcare=* key, the idea is to tag them concurrently on educational and health features respectively, and eventually migrate away from the overused and unprecise amenity=* without breaking data consumers for now. Once there’s a critical mass of healthcare=* and education=* tags, they can be supported and the duplicate amenity=* tags could be removed all at once.
