Proposal

A tag to indicate the presence of a footwear decontamination station.

Waipoua Forest, North Island, New Zealand -kauri dieback disease prevention-21March2011.jpg Kauri dieback sign.jpg

Rationale

The hiking/bushwalking/tramping people have increasing numbers of footwear cleaning stations between regions to stop the spread of contaminates e.g. plants, pathogens.

They are not for beauty of the footwear but for a practical purpose.

They are always beside or on a path.

Many have big brushes (mounted facing up) to clean soil off footwear and a disinfectant applier for the base of the footwear.

These are designed to reduce soil and other things being carried on footwear out of contaminated areas.

These may be the only on the ground indication of contaminated areas. People walking off path should go to these stations to prevent the spread of contamination and so should have knowledge of where these stations are located.

Tagging

Create a node and tag with man_made=footwear_decontamination.

If you want to create an area then do so, where these facilities are less than 2 metres square they can be adequately represented by a node.

Applies to

Nodes and areas.

Rendering

The sole of a boot/shoe with a scrubbing brush?

It is unlikely this would be rendered except for hiking maps.

  • I abstain from voting but have comments I have comments but abstain from voting on this proposal. I’m fine with tagging this feature, but if it is meant specifically for hikers it should get a more specific tag or tag combination. —Dieterdreist (talk) 23:31, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Rats! I have a section titled 'Tagging', probably should be a section on 'How to map' which would have prompted the though of where they could be, both on or beside the track. I simply have not stated where it should be. Sorry, but as it is not specified then it is up to the mapper. Warin61 (talk) 03:38, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

  • I abstain from voting but have comments I have comments but abstain from voting on this proposal. I think that it should be amenity=* rather than man_made=*, but I don't care too much as these things don't exist in the country I live in. --Fkv (talk) 17:17, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. These types of decontamination sites can certainly be found around the world. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_ZURdnr2QU I saw this type of object the last time a few years ago in front of the gate in the driveway of the farm.Cz ja (talk) 21:33, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
