Proposal talk:Man made=guard stone
Hi, after barrier=guard_stone was rejected, I hope I followed the procedure correctly in creating a new page, because I did not know how to modify the old proposal without confusing everyone. B-unicycling (talk) 15:15, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
- This is probably a good idea. You can add a link to Proposed features/guard stone in the "Discussions" section. Also in the "rationale" section you might mention why you are using man_made=* (instead of barrier=*) --Jeisenbe (talk) 05:31, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
Tagging
I don't think a guard stone necessarily should be placed at the corner nodes of buildings, building passages or walls. I think such a stone could also be a single node, placed where the mapper decides the stone is.
1. It could be part of a building.
2. It could be part of a wall (add direction=left or direction=right to tell on which side of the wall it is)
3. It could be freestanding. --Kogacarlo (talk) 02:50, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
- I agree, the more precise, the better. B-unicycling (talk) 13:35, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
Direction
I'm myself not in favour of the left/right values, I would prefer degrees instead, I find that easier to apply and it is also not effected, if someone reversed the direction of a line for whatever reason. B-unicycling (talk) 16:02, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
guard_stone_row
It was brought to my attention after the vote started that guard stones don't necessarily have to be limited to nodes, but can also occur in a way that a linear mapping is desirable. Since we have neglected rural mapping for too long, I adapted the proposal to be inclusive. B-unicycling (talk) 19:35, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- This should not be added during the voting process. I have removed it, otherwise I would have to vote against the proposal like @Mueschel: and @Lectrician1: and @Mateusz Konieczny: - I hope they will re-consider their votes if this reversion to the original proposal is accepted. --Jeisenbe (talk) 06:14, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for deleting it. I'm relatively new to contributing to the Wiki and I was trying to play by the book. B-unicycling (talk) 10:56, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
- So when there is a row of "guard stones" which are not attached to a building, aren't they just barrier=bollard in that case? You are already allowed to map a row of bollards with barrier=bollard on a way. --Jeisenbe (talk) 04:48, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- I am not sure, but maybe a row of guardstones could protect the traffic on a way when placed at its limits, similar to a guard rail, while bollards are usually put to prevent passing of wide vehicles while letting pedestrians through. Different function, different placement. —Dieterdreist (talk) 09:25, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- Bollard are often placed between sidewalk and road Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 14:05, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Czech name
The czech name here is wrong, it should be nárožní kámen. Other names for guard stones are ochranný patník and nákolník. --Comfyquiettree (talk) 18:27, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
