This page describes the highway classification scheme used in Saskatchewan following the 2022 Canadian highway guidelines. This is a working draft and contents may be subject to discussion.

Summary

  • highway=motorway - Freeways (e.g. Ring Road, Circle Drive, Regina Bypass, Highway 1 near Swift Current)
  • highway=trunk - NHS core routes that aren't freeway-standard (e.g. most of the TCH and Yellowhead Highway 7, Highway 11 ) and some additional routes between cities without taking NHS core routes.
  • highway=primary - Primary provincial highways (numbers 1-199) that aren't trunk or motorway. In Regina and Saskatoon, major arterial roads, also former highway routings before the construction of freeway-grade bypasses.
  • highway=secondary - Secondary highways (200-397; 900-999), most other arterials in urban areas
  • highway=tertiary - Numbered municipal roads (with 600-700 series numbers) in rural areas, collector streets in urban areas
  • highway=unclassified - most rural roads
  • highway=residential - residential roads
