A group of trees, e.g., within a park, in urban settings, in nature, in fields, meadows, or as a landmark which are generally not considered forests or woodlands.
When not to use
The following are not considered groups of trees and should therefore be recorded as natural=wood, landuse=forest, natural=tree, or natural=tree_row:
- Field copses bordering forests or standing in fields.
- Groves in the sense of cultivated areas of fruit or other crops, such as olive groves, bamboo groves, etc., see
landuse=orchard.
- Groups of trees planted for propagation, such as nurseries, fruit and forest seedlings, etc., see
landuse=plant_nursery. - Woodland strips along waterways, usually embankments, with wooded understory.
- Woodland strips along paths and roads, kept narrow but growing wild.
- Individual trees, e.g., in parks or cemeteries, whose planting distance prevents their crowns from growing into one another.
- Forest cemeteries, woodland cemeteries; here, each tree is dedicated to one or more deceased persons.
Tags used in combination
leaf_type=* - distinguishes conifers from deciduous trees or mixed plantings
leaf_cycle=* - specifies deciduous and evergreen vegetation
How to map
Draw
an area along its outline or place
a node at the middle.
Individual trees and trunks within a group of trees are often not identifiable in satellite images. Therefore, their individual characteristics are omitted, and only the outline of the tree crowns of a tree group (ideally leafless) is recorded using natural=tree_group.
