A  hot spring is a spring produced by the emergence of geothermally heated groundwater that rises from the Earth's crust.

How to map

Map the hot water vent(s), a node node for small ones or an area area for larger vents and add natural=hot_spring.

If there is a significant pool of water at the spring(s), map it as area with natural=water, this area would typically overlap the vent(s).

Use water_characteristic=* to specify mineral, gas or other content, this can be attached to particular vents and/or water pools.

This tag is strictly for mapping the natural source of a hot spring, not any recreational aspect of it. For man made pools or baths heated by a hot spring, see amenity=public_bath and Swimming and bathing#Public bath.

Note: If it is producing hot water, use natural=hot_spring. If it is only producing steam, use natural=fumarole.
