A castle wall is the fortification of a castle. It is used both for military protection and as a means of demarcation against other regions, but today it is mostly used for demonstration purposes only

How to map

Draw a way way along the castle wall. Add barrier=wall + wall=castle_wall.

This tag should be reserved for substantial walls that establish the castle as a stronghold. It is not appropriate for more general walls within the castle, or less substantial boundary walls, e.g. park land associated with a castle.

Tags to use in combination

  • height=* - The height of the wall.
  • material=* - Describes the main material of the wall. If multiple values are used, combine them with ";" (not the word "and", a comma, spaces, slash, or plus sign).
  • two_sided=* - Explicitly describes feature as two sided or not.
  • historic=yes - Used to add the historic significance of the objects described by other tags.
  • start_date=* - Date when feature opened or the construction of the feature finished. See also construction_date=* and year_of_construction=*.
