leisure=swimming_pool

How does this tag work in junction with leisure=swimming_pool. The iD editor offers suggestions such as swimming_pool=outdoor, swimming_pool=heated, etc.

Generally, there is no "does that work" within OpenStreetMap, see Any_tags_you_like. You may have a look whether it's usual using taginfo. Unfortunately there's no general guideline about the syntax such as a namespace. So some things work like leisure=swimming_pool, swimming_pool=*, in other cases there are namespaces, see Namespace_tag_overview. In the swimming pool example there might be different "details" such as swimming_pool:type=*, swimming_pool:temperature=*, swimming_pool:depth=*, there are already some usages of this kind. Yes, there are good practices. Viz swimming_pool:type=* is a meaningless suffix that doesn't show how it's different from swimming_pool=* . leisure=swimming_pool can use heating=yes , although maybe it should be eg heated=yes to distinguish from indoor heating. "Heated pool" seems to be the common term in the first place.

iD editor suggests swimming pool=indoor/outdoor

I noticed that the iD editor suggests swimming_pool=indoor/outdoor but I've seen this is discouraged, using location=indoor/outdoor instead. Someone with some time should report this to do something very useful for everybody. --Valeriobozz (talk) 19:12, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, it seems like 99.9% of this tags usage is for location of the pool. It looks like iD Editor at least isn't suggesting it anymore. But hopeful the tags can be switched over at some point and the article should really be updated in the meantime to reflect that the tag isn't being used for whether a feature has a swimming pool or not. Since that's clearly not how the tag was or is being used. --Adamant1 (talk) 17:29, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
Both of them are a problem. location=*door for horizontal position is a conflict with other location=* for vertical position.

The outdoor=yes and indoor=yes tags seems more flexible. Something B (talk) 11:41, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

swimming_pool=inground and swimming_pool=above_ground?

This page suggests the tag swimming_pool=inground, evidently for structures dug into the ground, but does not document a recommended counterpart, which should logically be swimming_pool=above_ground. Taginfo shows just 106 uses of this tag, while swimming_pool=above ranks more than 5000, even though this last option is less accurate and does not have wiki documentation supporting it. --Selva (talk) 11:05, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

Both of them are still unclear. Are they location=surface and location=overground ? That may be affected by the colliding location=indoor and location=outdoor , which are better as outdoor=* . Can pools indoors or on roofs use swimming_pool=inground and swimming_pool=above_ground ?
