Is this tag necessary if bays, busbars and the substation are mapped?

"Normally the busbars and bays should be mapped individually" according to the wiki page text. So if this is done, is this tag needed? --Jeisenbe (talk) 06:11, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

No reply so far here. I think when components are visible and drawn individually, a surrounding polygon with power=switchgear is not wrong but very optional Fanfouer (talk) 08:57, 18 April 2025 (UTC)

This should be fine on a node

Having to create a fictional polygon when it is inside should not be needed. A simple node to connect lines should be fine. Gazer75 (talk) 08:16, 18 April 2025 (UTC)

Do you have example of such a switchgear inside a larger building requiring to create it as a node please? Fanfouer (talk) 08:55, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
Any substation in a city will have indoor switchgear and quite often GIS, especially for distribution voltage at 33kV or less. There is no space for it outside. What you might see on aerials is the transformer bays along the wall not covered. Everything else is inside. Gazer75 (talk) 18:55, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
