Sites for recycling waste

My local council has household waste sorting sites that are mainly for people to dump recyclable materials. Will 'waste transfer station' suffice here? --LeedsTracker 23:45, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

sites such as Holmewell Road Household Waste Sorting Site have now been renamed as a 'Household Waste Recycling Centre' (HWRC is the UK acronym) which is a recycling_type:centre in OSM. It is generally a recycling centre if members of the public can visit it, and a waste transfer station if it is used by the Council or private businesses. Nuclear waste

How to tag nuclear waste location. Some site store short-life nuclear waste in open storage (or in pool), some others site store long-life nuclear waste. Sometime in deep underground location.

Extend landfill tags

Proposition :

  • landfill:type=* (surface, underground, underwater...)
  • landfill:source=* (nuclear, domestic, industrial)
  • landfill:nuclear=* (short-life, medium-life, long-life)

type=monofill (e.g. tire dump) vs. mixed? DougGrinbergs (talk) 06:56, 24 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

How to map disused and vegetaded landfills?

Many landfills get closed one day and maybe vegetaded. In this case, should the tag landuse=landfill be kept (in my opinion yes)? Maybe with a disused and/or vegetaded tag? --Max Muster (talk) 09:36, 26 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Shredding

How do we map facilities for shredding paper documents, computer equipment, phones, etc in a secure way? e.g.,

  • recycling:paper=shredding
  • recycling:data_media=shredding

Garbage crew headquarters

How to tag the Garbage crew headquarters? They have 30 trucks but they are parked elsewhere. Jidanni (talk) 17:22, 25 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Container Rental

Not sure if this is an international thing but in Germany we have these container rental services (https://www.container-bauer.de/) where you can rent a container for construction or demolition waste and they will take care of it. How would their headquarters be tagged? Something with office=? ?

in the UK (and therefore 'British English') we call the container a 'skip' and the supplier service 'skip hire'. The term 'skip' may, or may not, be overly confusing in other localities/languages Jnicho02 (talk) 10:43, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Simple giant piles of garbage

Simple giant piles of garbage: mention how to tag. Jidanni (talk) 07:17, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yes, one notes that in some places, there is no concept of "Waste Processing" or "Landfills". Trash is simply piled up in giant trash dumps. Jidanni (talk) 09:05, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

I think that is still a landfill even if it is not a hole in the ground. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:landuse%3Dlandfill Jnicho02 (talk) 13:05, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

3 Bin Trash Can

How should I map out these trash cans with trash, recycling, and compost? To Adhere to current guides I think I need 2 tags for amenity = trash and recycling then have two options for recycling and organic on the recycling amenity. Is there a better way to do this with just 1 point?
