Relations

Route relations

Some highways are moving from the old way-based tagging scheme to the new route relations. Each relation should have network and ref keys, as well as a symbol key with the URL to the SVG image found on the highway's Wikipedia article. If the entire route has the same name, the name key may also be specified on the relation.

For divided highways in Ohio, roles are entered when adding relations to the constituent ways. (Potlatch provides a small textbox on the relation line for entering roles.) The de facto standard in Ohio is to add roles corresponding to the signposted direction of each carriageway (i.e., north).

Interstate highways

Mark all member relations as network=US:I. Please keep this list synchronized with Interstate Highways Relations.

Boundary relations

Counties

County borders were originally supplied by the USGS. The following counties' borders are being assigned to relations, merged with adjacent county borders (rather than overlapping them), and attached to TIGER ways and river center-lines (where appropriate) for improved accuracy.

When "TIGERifying" county borders, please ensure that any road crossing a county line is joined up properly. The roads seem to have been imported county-by-county, causing the roads to be disconnected.

Code Name Relation Way merging TIGERification
BRO Brown relation 163283 With Clermont West
BUT Butler relation 104783 With Warren South and east
CLE Clermont relation 104779 With Hamilton, Warren, Clinton North, west, and east

GRE Greene relation 104781 With Warren
HAM Hamilton relation 104784 With Butler, Clermont North and east

WAR Warren relation 104778 Complete West

To do

  • The map is still missing most of Ohio's major bicycle routes, such as the Ohio-to-Erie Trail, of which only the Little Miami Scenic Trail has been mapped. Some counties have begun numbering these routes, so inclusion in OpenStreetMap could be very helpful.
  • Some counties in Southwestern Ohio are now using Relation:boundary along shared ways for their borders.
