Before anybody screams DELETE let me explain. I know this tag is controversial, and after the vote rejection of this tag I created this page, to document my usage of the tag. I put up the suggestion and entered a vote process to let others have a say and maybe improve a tag I was intending to use. OSM have a long time encouraged people to document tags they use, though not necessary linked from Map Features. Some time after I made this page it was deleted by an user, and replaced a redirect to a new proposal.

maxheight:legal expresses a legal height limit for using the way to which the tag is added. If no unit is included, the value is assumed to be in metres.

This tag is new, and still not supported by rendering or routing software, and should therefor be used together with maxheight=*.

This tag was rejected. See Proposed features/clearance
