Use of animal tag

Tag:shop=butcher uses Key:butcher to denote which kind of meat the business serves. The Wiki page for Tag:industrial=slaughterhouse doesn't mention a way to differentiate target species other than using Tag:industrial=poultry_processing. The Hence there's not much precedent for using Key:animal in this manner. The Wiki page of Key:animal explains the tag as "indicat[ing] which animals are present at that location", which wouldn't quite fit a meat processing plant, as it's more meat than animal that's present there. Should the definition of Key:animal be expanded upon, or would it be more appropriate to use, for example, meat_processing=deer or meat_processing=venison to denote the designation of the meat processing plant? Otherwise, I support adding craft=meat_processing. Miksuko (talk) 11:43, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
