Proposal

A midwife practice. It is a destination in itself, and people may search for it.

A midwife practice is a place where a woman can exercise and get prepared for childbirth, get cured for a range of gynaecological problems (from puberty to end of life), get prescription for contraceptives, be taken care of before and after childbirth, seek help to take care of her baby, etc.

Rationale

In France, for example, many midwives run a practice, outside clinics and hospitals. More and more midwives are working this way.

Examples

The total number of midwives in France (sages-femmes) is about 22000. The trend of those running a practice is rising, estimated to reach 33% in 2030. Hence, one can estimate the number of midwife practices in France (60 millions inhabitants) to about 5500.

Tagging

The category falls under healthcare: healthcare=midwife. No other category under healthcare matches this profession. A midwife is a profession that cannot accurately fit in existing features.

Applies to

Applies to nodes.

Rendering

The existing doctor symbol. Optionally, the color could be changed from red to pink (French midwives often wear a pink uniform in maternity hospitals/clinics).

  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal. I also think it is a good thing to propose standardized tagging for midwifes, but the explicit exclusion of giving birth at this place makes me vote no, because it seems to be too tightly designed according to the French situation. Generally, although there is the limitation of not being the place to give birth, I find the definition very short and not exhaustive. For example "get cured for a range of gynaecological problems (from puberty to end of life)" or "get prescription for contraceptives" should be optional, not all midwifes do offer services not connected to pregnancy and birth. Ideally there would be a definition that says what is indispensable and what are optional services that might be offered or not. --Dieterdreist (talk) 16:25, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal. This proposal does offer no tagging for places that are mostly like the proposed midwife practice, but women can also give birth there. With the current state of the proposal the tag will be used anyway for such places, so it is fuzzy from the beginning. See discussion page. --Nop (talk) 07:22, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal.Because seem too vague and these concept is not for a place but for a medical specialization (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midwifery). And I think the place should be tag as healthcare=alternative (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:healthcare) with the complemented tag healthcare:speciality=gynaecology that is basically the same idea. It is also known as obstetric.

May be we need to clarify the idea with something related with healthcare:speciality=doulas. http://www.dona.org/mothers/ --Geoplace (talk) 18:09, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal. I like the concept but do not understand why giving birth at such a place is excluded. --AlaskaDave (talk) 10:47, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal. I oppose this proposal, because this tag covers an extremely wide range of childbirth-related services, actually varying from place to place and from country to country. Objects, tagged with it, will be practically unusable. There is a Healthcare 2.0 proposal, which offers the clear and definite way to tag such places. --BushmanK (talk) 00:57, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
